About the author
Expert at getting lost. Amateur at finding words. Always somewhere between a book and train stations. More of a postcard writer than a novelist.

Hi, I am Sarah

I am a travel enthusiast, a bookworm and a half-ass writer.

I am also an expat from a tiny tropical island in Asia and now living in Vienna, Austria. My palate is defined by the comfort of Xiao Long Bao and a cup of good Oolong tea. Currently oscillating between bubble tea craving and Viennese Melange perfection.

I am a professional amateur, collecting little moments and footnotes.

I travel side streets, I like going to places I have never been, I read books for the details, and I write to keep the memory of moments from fading.

Think of this site as my digital sketchbook- a collection of messy fragments, scenery of my journey, book reflections and honest notes.

Why two languages?

My observation begin in Mandarin. My context begins in English.

I write first in my mother tongue because that is where my heart, my history, and my voice live. It is how I feel the texture of the world.

The English version is my bridge - a clear deliberate attempt to bring you along on the journey. My fragments are always the truth; the English is just my translation of the moment.

This Writing Project

This is a project to honuor to the small things. I don't know where it is going, and that's precisely the point. Come find the world inside a footnote with me!

With a heart full of curiosity,

S.

And a vital, loving acknowledge

To my partner, D., who believes I can write, and kicked me in the ass just hard enough that I became motivated to pick up the pen and write again.

And to my family, who is also a part of this entire journey, whether they are navigating life alongside me or cheering me on from a comfortable distance.

This messy sketchbook is for you.
